Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers from licensed insurance experts.

When is Open Enrollment 2026?
Federal Open Enrollment for 2026 coverage runs November 1, 2025 – January 15, 2026. Some state-based exchanges (CA, NJ, NY, etc.) run longer — into February. Coverage starts January 1, 2026 for enrollments by December 15, 2025.
What if I miss Open Enrollment?
You'll need a qualifying life event (job loss, marriage, baby, move, etc.) to trigger a Special Enrollment Period. Otherwise, you wait for next November. Medicaid, CHIP, and short-term plans are still available year-round.
Should I switch plans every Open Enrollment?
At minimum, REVIEW your plan every year. Premiums change, networks change, your health changes. The plan that was right last year may not be right now. Even if you stay, log in and confirm — auto-renewal can land you in a more expensive plan.
Do I need to do anything if I want to keep my current plan?
Most people are auto-renewed if they don't make changes. BUT auto-renewal often defaults to a different plan if yours is discontinued, and your subsidy may not transfer correctly. We recommend actively re-enrolling each year.
Can I enroll for free during Open Enrollment?
Yes — using a licensed agent like TrustedQuotes is 100% free for you. Carriers pay us, not you. There's no fee, no markup, and no obligation.
