Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers from licensed insurance experts.

What's the difference between Medigap and Medicare Advantage?
Medigap supplements Original Medicare and lets you see any doctor that accepts Medicare nationwide. Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare with a private network plan. Medigap = freedom + higher premium. Advantage = lower premium + restricted network.
When should I enroll in a Medigap plan?
Your best window is the 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period that starts the first month you're 65 AND enrolled in Part B. During this window, you can't be denied or charged more for health reasons. Outside this window, you may face medical underwriting.
Which Medigap plan is best?
Plan G is the most popular for new enrollees — it covers everything except the small Part B deductible ($240/yr). Plan N is cheaper but has copays. Plan F is no longer available to those new to Medicare after Jan 1, 2020.
Are Medigap prices the same everywhere?
No. Premiums vary by carrier, state, age, and rating method. Same Plan G can cost $120/month with one carrier and $250/month with another for identical coverage. We compare prices for you.
Can I switch Medigap plans later?
Yes, but outside your Open Enrollment Period you may have to answer health questions. Some states allow free switching during specific windows. Plan carefully or call us before switching.
